Fact: In 2004, only 1 in 6 employees with 401(k) plans made an attempt to rebalance or reallocate their 401(k) portfolio.
83% of employees never made a change!*
Is Your 401(k) Account Managed?
Although this question may seem obvious, sadly enough, unless you are managing the account, your individual portfolio is not being managed. Yes, the funds inside your 401(k) have a fund manager, but no one is managing your individual account.
When an employee originally enrolls in a 401(k) plan, the salesman makes sure that you select any number of these funds to invest in. It is your responsibility to make reallocation changes based on the market changes—the salesman doesn’t, and without proper licensing cannot, do this for you. If you are not managing your account, who will?
